CIRCLE Creates Research Impact Fellowship, Hires Inaugural Fellow
CIRCLE is excited to announce that Adam Strong has joined the team as our first Research Impact Fellow.
This fellowship is a first for CIRCLE, and supports the organization’s foundational belief that there is a crucial, synergistic relationship between research, policy, and practice. Our research is informed as much as possible by the expertise of practitioners, advocates, and policymakers, and we seek to be in partnerships through which regular conversation is possible and mutually beneficial. This fellowship will focus on how to build relationships that deepen and strengthen practice.
In pursuit of those goals and as part of the CIRCLE team, Adam will be working on digital communications, translating research into practical tools for reflection and action-planning, and building relationships in youth fields for stronger practice and systemic change. Adam will also be advancing our strategic communications efforts, especially in relation to CIRCLE’s work to investigate and connect civic and economic mobility in order to create a more equitable distribution of opportunities for civic engagement.
“We are thrilled to have the expertise and experience that Adam brings to CIRCLE as we increase our capacity to be a field-builder and systems catalyst—strengthening research to practice in the youth civic engagement field,” noted Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg, Director of CIRCLE. “In his work with us during the fall of 2018, it was clear that Adam’s background in systems-change work, working with local practitioner organizations, government officials, and nontraditional educational institutions over the past six years, are perfect for our mission. I believe he will play an important role in helping us strengthen and broaden our impact.”
“This fellowship is perfectly aligned with my interest to increase my own impact and improve my capacity to bridge research to practice, and to uplift research-based solutions to build equity in opportunities for civic engagement and socioeconomic mobility,” noted Adam. “I look forward to the learning opportunities this fellowship will provide, and bringing to bear all my experience from my years of systems-change work to support the application of research-based solutions to some of the most important issues of our time.”
Before Joining CIRCLE, Adam served as a Civic Engagement Liaison for Opportunity Youth United, a national movement of current and former opportunity youth who address local issues in their communities while also advocating to increase opportunity and decrease poverty in America using their policy recommendations. He provided strategic guidance and support to their youth-led community action teams in California in their efforts to bring out the vote during nonpartisan 2018 Midterm Voter Engagement Campaigns. He is currently finishing his master’s degree in public policy from the Carsey School of Public Policy at the University of New Hampshire, focusing in Strategy & Communications and Statistics & Data Analysis. Adam is also a proud YouthBuild and AmeriCorps alumni.
