Working Paper 51: The Civic Achievement Gap
by Meira Levinson
“This paper, drawn from a book in progress, summarizes evidence of a civic
achievement gap between non-white, poor, and/or immigrant youth, on the one hand, and white, wealthier, and/or native-born youth, on the other. Young people (and adults) in the former group demonstrate consistently lower levels of civic and political knowledge, skills, positive attitudes, and participation, as compared to their wealthier and white counterparts. As a result, they face serious political disadvantages.”

We’re in the age of reverse discrimination. I really wish the government would stop butting in and giving away handouts. That doesn’t actually help in most situations. It just becomes a dependency and many people never get out of their rut.

Like many others I voted for president Obama. I hope the gap will eventually be narrowed and that discrimination will one day no longer be an issue on our minds.

There is a long time battle against discrimination, And it should be stop now, I remember an incident happen to one university(not to mention the name and place) there is a group of student mock and fight a young Asian student, without any reason, the investigator found out they beat the student because he is an Asian. Let us remember that all men are equally created by the all mighty there is no black or white or Asian, African etc. there is no superiority among men, only god is superior to us.

I fear that gap only continues to widen, especially as the US economy -unemployment in particular- continues to present more and more challenges to those struggling financially.

This is the era of affirmative action. I really wish the government would stop headers and giving gifts. It does not really help in most situations. It just becomes a dependency and many people never get out of your routine.
