Volunteering Eases Return to Civilian Life for Young Veterans
November 2009
Tisch College, Medford/Somerville, Mass. – Recent veterans who have volunteered since returning to the United States show a better adjustment to civilian life than their fellow returned servicemen and women who have not volunteered, according to a new report issued in time for Veterans Day. This really looks like an interesting study, though it also appears that there is some uncertainty as to the validity of its methods and accuracy of the conclusions. I did read this blog and it was very interesting. I liked the second part the most.

The problem is that being a veteran is not an advantage when you’re in search of employment. While you have succeeded skills that are useful for the military, probably without a college degree when he enlisted at 18 years of age.

Its not too surprising that they have an easier time adjusting when they are better connected to their community.

But it’s perhaps because they want to volunteer, that makes it easier for them to adjust? just a thought.
