High Youth Turnout Continued in Recent Tuesday Primaries
The trend of high youth engagement in the 2016 primaries continued on Tuesday, April 26, when participation rose, compared to previous years, in Maryland and Connecticut. Meanwhile, data estimates suggest youth turnout may have dropped in Pennsylvania.
An estimated 12% of youth cast ballots in Connecticut, where participation rose by 40% on the Democratic side compared to 2008. In Maryland, we estimate 18% of young people went to the polls, and most of the increase in youth participation was due to growth in the Republican contest.
Youth in all states and in both parties did show one trend in common: they have not yet coalesced around the front-runners, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Update: Total Youth Votes Cast in 2016 Primaries and Caucuses
 We now have youth voting estimates for 25 states in the 2016 primary season. For the states where youth vote choice data is available, Bernie Sanders continues to dominate the youth vote.
Nearly 2 million young people in those states have voted for Senator Sanders, almost three times as many as have voted for Secretary Clinton (728,000) or for Donald Trump (747,000).
