Exclusive Research: Where Will Young Voters Shape the 2016 Races?
CIRCLE recently released the Youth Electoral Significance Index (YESI), our exclusive, data-based rankings of the states and districts where young voters, ages 18-29, can have a disproportionately high impact on the 2016 Presidential and Congressional elections.
According to our analysis, youth in Iowa, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Colorado are top-5 in their potential to shape the presidential contest. Young voters in four of those states (NH, PA, OH, CO), along with Illinois, are poised to shape their Senate races. Youth in three Iowa districts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) along with their peers in the Colorado 6th and Florida 7th, are among the top-10 for potential impact in House races.

As the presidential primaries and caucuses unfold, CIRCLE is publishing exclusive youth turnout data and comprehensive analyses about young voters in the ongoing nominating contests.
So far, we have written about Republican youth’s record-breaking participation in Iowa, South Carolina, and Nevada; and about Bernie Sanders’ support among young Democratic voters, over 80% of whom have chosen him over Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire—and in every other state so far.

Call for Guest Post Proposals from CIRCLE and Monkey Cage

As part of our continuing initiative to feature guest posts from practitioners and scholars, we are seeking nonpartisan, evidence-based articles on youth and political engagement.
This call for proposals is a partnership between CIRCLE and the Washington Post’s Monkey Cage blog. We will invite some who submit proposals to draft full articles, which will then be evaluated by Monkey Cage and CIRCLE for publication on both sites.
